A two-way bridge between monday.com and Google Chat — notification cards, digests and reminders flow into your spaces, and card actions, thread replies and slash commands flow back into monday.
1. Install the app
- Install Chat Sync for monday.com from the monday.com marketplace and open its settings page in monday.
- Authorize monday when prompted — this connects your boards.
2. Add the bot to a Google Chat space
- In Google Chat, open Find apps and search for Chat Sync for monday.com. The bot appears in your spaces as mondayBot.
- Add it to the space you want notifications in — it posts a welcome card.
- If the person adding the bot is a monday admin, the space connects automatically. Otherwise, enter the code from the welcome card in the app's settings page to link the space.
3. Set up notifications, digests & reminders
- In the settings page, open Notifications → Add rule.
- Pick a trigger (item created, column changed, item moved, update posted, item deleted), the board, and the Google Chat space to post to. Narrow the rule with group, column, value or keyword filters.
- Customize the message with tokens like
{value.previous} → {value.new}, choose which columns show on the card, and save. Matching changes now post to the space as interactive cards.
- Digests — scheduled board summaries (new / done / overdue / unassigned / stale / by status) posted daily or weekly to a space.
- Deadlines — due-date and time-in-status (SLA) reminders before items are due and when overdue.
- Personal DM feed — enable it on a rule and mondayBot also DMs assignees about items assigned to them. You're never notified about your own change. Message the bot once so it can DM you.
- Quiet hours — digests and reminders wait until quiet hours end (set on the Account tab).
4. Link your monday account
Tap Link my monday account on the welcome card (or the connect prompt that appears on your first action) and complete the one-time monday sign-in. From then on, every action you take from Chat — assign, status change, comment, create — is attributed to you in monday's activity log.
Without linking, write actions are blocked and you'll get a connect prompt; comments still work, posted by the app with your name as a prefix. The app may also match your Google account email to a monday user — that is used for identity only (it enables Assign to me targeting and the DM feed) and never authorizes writes.
5. Act from Chat
- Card buttons — Assign to me, Change status (opens a dialog with the board's statuses), Comment, and View item (opens the item in monday).
- Thread replies — reply in a card's thread and your reply is posted to the monday item as an update; monday updates flow back into the same thread. Comment sync is two-way.
- Link unfurling — paste a monday item link into Chat and it unfurls into a live card with actions.
6. Slash commands & DMs
In a space, use the slash commands:
/monday_tasks — your assigned items across boards.
/monday_search — find items by name.
/monday_create_item — opens a dialog to create an item (board + name + description).
/monday_help — command overview.
In a direct message with mondayBot you can just type: tasks, search <text>, done, create, help.
Troubleshooting
- No spaces in the picker? Add mondayBot to the space in Google Chat first.
- Boards won't load? Re-authorize monday from the settings banner.
- "Assign to me" can't match you? Your Google email differs from your monday login — use the Link my monday account prompt to connect your account.
